Schumer is an idiot.

She bought hook line and sinker into the wage gap divisive rhetoric our last dips*** of a president tried to pass off as fact.

Oh, and you can't forget that pink tax commercial she made for the Superbowl...

Amy Schumer was paid $11 million for "The Leather Special". She literally got paid a fortune to be funny, totally failed at it, and then had the audacity to complain that other, funniercomedians earned more money? What a f***ing narcissist.

here is some real talk: in my opinion amy schumer and chris rock are on the same level. I like both of them but I wont go out of my way to watch them. Chris rock would be funnier but he has too much throwaway material in his sets. I recall watching amy schumers show on comedy central and thought it was funny and her standup is alright.

Of course its totally okay to find amy unfunny, obviously. My main beef is I feel chris rock is a little over rated.

As for dave chappelle, he is an elite comedian imo.

It's not just about subjective opinion of the comedian though. I completely disagree with you about Rock. To me he's top 5 all time. That doesn't really matter though. The fact is his got a longer history, a longer resume, and is a bigger draw than Amy. She has literally no grounds to stand on when demanding more money because Rock more.

Fair enough. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion about what they think is funny. Nothing wrong with that.

But demanding more money from Netflix, after her special had dismal ratings and reviews, is the behavior of an entitled narcissist and a bully. She knows that she can pull the "wage gap" card and that every sycophant in the media will slander the hell out of Netflix if they don't cave. Makes no difference that "The Leather Special" was a net loss for Netflix.

The entertainment business is not an office job with salaries, benefits and promotions. Actors and comedians who bring in huge viewership command huge compensation. Those who don't bring the numbers don't make the big bucks. If Amy Schumer's special was actually bringing Netflix more subscribers, it wouldn't matter if it sucked or not. She'd deserve more money because she brought more money. As it is, she's like a child on a soccer team who got a pizza party even though they lost, and then throws a tantrum until the coach buys her ice cream, too.

The special only had dismal reviews from fans. on metacritic i got a 72/100, which is actually pretty good. On sites where users could vote, such as rating it on netflix itself, it did get abysmal scores in part because places on the internet encouraged downvoting something they likely havent seen. for the record I havent seen the leather special either. I probably wont because like i said schumer is funny but not to where i go out of my way to watch.

Im not really defending schumer because it is true she doesnt have the draw or popularity. Definitely. I just think some criticisms of her are a little harsh, but again this isnt some ship im gonna go down sinking with so eh.

edit: just for reference the leather special has no critic score from rotten tomatoes, but audiences rate it 6%, 1/5. Which means audiences think its worse than every adam sandler movie made post 2000. Even jack and jill, for reference has 36% 2.6/5.

LOL! You have to work really hard to be worse than an Adam Sandler Hollywood Scam™. It's not really surprising, though. For all his faults with being a s***ty comic and making lazy cash-in commercials then passing them off as "movies", Adam Sandler hasn't gotten up on his high horse to complain about deserving more money, or gone out of his way to shame people online. Amy Schumer has. Obviously there was a concerted effort to downvote "The Leather Special" online. Perhaps it didn't suck quite as much as the aggregate sites suggest, but it still sucked.

She probably took home about 5.24 million of that. Her agent's share is 10%, then she's paying 52.9% combined income tax on the 9.9 million remainder. Still way more than she's worth, of course.

Hot dog dog. Thanks for chiming in on what you feel I deserve to be paid. I believe women deserve equal pay. However I don't believe I deserve equal pay to Chris and Dave. They are legends and 2 of the greatest comics of all time. I would like to say that I have been selling out arenas these last couple years. Something a female comic has never done. That's a big deal to me, especially because I know I do my best every night on stage for the audience and they have a good time. I didn't ask for the same as my friends. I did ask for more than the initial offer. I will continue to work my ass off and be the best performer I can be. The reports of me "demanding" or "insisting" on equal pay to them aren't a true. #fat #stealsjokes

Well, to be fair, she may have demanded the same mount and then when the news got out to the public, she made that statement to save face.. It's hard to trust anything that comes out of Amy Schumer's mouth..

The real travesty is that she was originally paid 11 million for that horrendous stand-up special and then they actually gave her more money when she asked for it.. The TC's link is correct, she did ask for more money, just not quite as much as Rock or Chappelle.. Or so she says..

Its called a negotiation, why wouldn't you use every tactic you can to get more money when you're talking salary?

I hate the wage gap myth and all that, but I will always support you doing anything you can to get a better payout, because that's what I do. You think when I was interviewing I was telling them "I will settle for the market standard". No, I asked for 20% higher than the standard at the time, and was able to settle for about 15% higher plus a hiring bonus to support me moving out of state. Same with Amy Schumer, I hated the Leather Special, and her comedy is terrible and I really don't know what her draw is, but if she's arguing for her pay of course she's going to demand as much as she can, and Netflix will settle with her where they will.

You can't know that because Netflix doesn't release viewership figures. But we can look at the venues they're playing;

Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle play large theatres (with some exceptions, like Chris Rock in Australia), Amy Schumer plays Arenas;

Amy Schumer was more successful last year than Dave (1 place higher) and Chris (didn't place, though he wasn't really out of hiatus then)

And in terms of public consciousness;
https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?q=Amy%20Schumer,Dave%20Chapelle,Chris%20Rock

You may not find her funny and I'm certainly not equating popularity with hilarity (as a comedy nerd, I would say popularity is usually symptomatic of not being funny). And factually she doesn't have the *legacy* of both Dave and Chris. But Dave and Chris are legacy acts. Amy is as popular, if not, more popular than both of them *presently* and if anything, more vital. That's what makes money.

Where I'm from, late-Xers and early Millennials are probably the "entitlement generation".

Our prosperity came disproportionately from blue-collar union jobs, and those all went away later in the 90s and 2000s due to NAFTA and mass off-shoring.
