A Confederate soldier statue at an Ohio cemetery was BEHEADED as it was found headless early saturday morning..although the people who did it left the hat behind.

Police say the monument of a soldier at Camp Chase Confederate Cemetary in Columbus had its head knocked off and stolen as the person or people have climbed on an arched memorial and toppled the statue atop the monument

The soldier's head and hat were knocked off and police said the vandals took the head but left the hat as the vandalism happened where around 2000 soldiers are buried.

Confederate statues have been targeted in the weeks following a white nationalist rally to protest the removal of Confederate General Robert E Lee in Virginia that resulted in the death of Heather Heyer...

Howard County Executivee Allan H Kittleman said "The more appropriate place for the memorial is in a museum, along with other artifacts and information on the Civil War"

Baltimore has already pulled down the confederate monument under the cover overnight. In Kansas, an 83 y/o Confederate memorial is set to be moved after it was vandalized.

Do you think these statues belong in a musuem?

Could you also move the "Girl in front of the bull" statue in NY (that one i have a deeep running grudge with)? Or the one dedicated to the Manhattan Project? What about that great white Obelisk that long lost it's original vue? Or the Lincoln monument near that which blatantly mimics Zeus?
Oh but we could go further...
What about the hundreds (if not tens of thousands) of monuments still kept intact remembering the "liberation" (and occupation) of EU by the USSR? Or all the various "Holocaust cult" places? The celtic / germanic / hun / mongol symbols all around Europe? Every native american statue?

Once you start to tear down symbols on a whim it is hard to stop it... This whole silly ordeal you started will either end in the senseless destruction of parts of history to validate an idealised view or with a corrupt system yet again picking and choosing which groups you are required to mourn / adore / commemorate and which ones need to be purged from history...

They belong in museums, but also where they were first put up. Because voting "Yes" would support removing them from their original placements, and voting "No" would imply that they don't belong as part of history...I chose not to vote.

Literally a statue built by to commemorate dead Confederate prisoners of war, which a Union officer partook to find those prisoners who died in camp largely to disease in order to give them a proper burial and a final resting place. Both Union and Confederate veterans had that monument built in 1902 to memorialize the dead. The boulder erected in 1897 reads "2260 Confederate Soldiers of the war 1861-1865 buried in this enclosure"

This isn't something built to commemorate the CSA and further the Lost Cause but to memorialize the dead.

The place is run by the Department of Veteran Affairs, under the larger veteran's cemetery in Dayton.

I know the ideologies of the extreme right are the same as those of extremist ME groups like ISIS.

I was just pointing out that extremist groups will do extremist actions, regardless of ideology. I can't believe some people are trying to argue who is worse.

If you carefully examine the post you can see the clear break where i shifted from local examples to general ones to ridicule the idea you so like to promote here further...
And the age of the statue or its time of erection has nothing to do with this... The confederation and slavery was (and still is) an essential part of US like it or not. Destroying statues, repeatedly condemning historical figures / acts will not change it... Especially not if said object was dedicated to everyday soldiers who lost their lives in a great conflict that shaped your current world...

The leftists committing these crimes believe their indignation gives them license to break the law. It's okay if they commit acts of vigilantism as long as they do so in the name of social justice.

Why are conservatives more upset about statues of slave owning traitors being taken down than say, a 13 year old boy being killed by the very people sworn to protect him and the killer getting off scott free. Or a father being shot and killed in front of his four year old daughter by the very people sworn to protect him and the killer getting off scott free. Or the multi billion dollar industry that thrives on destroying entire communities by intentionally sets prisoners up to fail in the outside world.
