Obama's reversal on the ban was a year long review on whether it should be unbanned or not.

Mattis delayed the review last month on the final day and now Trump has decided the answer should be no.

So there never has been an open transgender in the military. There very well could be in secret, obviously. But the notion that people will now be kicked out or that people will lose their VA benefits is false.

Just fyi.

Edit: transgender in the title, not transexual.

Edit 2: Is there a reason you're all freaking out? Even CNN says what I said here:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/07/26/politics/trump-military-transgender/index.html

Maybe you should all due your homework before flipping out.

If the only reason you couldn't be GI Jane while you were GI Joe busting *** in Iraq was because you would get booted from the armed forces by folks who think you're mentally unwell or a deviant, that isn't something to use as a "Checkmate libs"

It shows the same BS used to stop black soldiers, female soldiers or gay soldiers is now being used against trans soldiers.

They'd probably be administratively separated with an "Honorable" characterization of service if this holds.

Not a big fan of this ban, but people always tend to overreact to things. They pretend deporting illegal immigrants means deporting all immigrants and banning people from 6 countries means banning all Muslims in the world.

Ortega is currently retired and at the time was tested by doctors and psychologists and was deemed to be 100% male. So he wouldn't lose any VA benefits either.

There is no documented case of anyone who will be thrown out of the military and VA benefits cut over this.

The military is an extension of the government and our society at large. Trans Americans have to pay taxes. Their taxes go to funding the military, just like ours. If they are barred from service outright, regardless of work ethic, individual competence, etc., I damn sure hope they get a big, fat gift back from Uncle Sam come tax season.

I can't name any. Maybe there's one still the closet or living a double-life like Manning did. Would you try to uncover and remove such a general?

Come on, take this to the logical conclusion. We're going to lose good people through protest or resignation even if grandfather clauses protect.

I can't understand your train of thought, no. If they're unknown yesterday why would they reveal themselves now that the ban hasn't been lifted?

In the military you learn to stfu and do your job. That's why you can't name anyone.

Edit: no one is going to try and seek them out. This isn't a witch hunt. I don't even know how you would even go about "seeking them out" anyway. And I don't want to know. Nothing changed from yesterday.

I'll get shit on for this but here we go. There's absolutely no reason whatsoever that any member of society should be labelled as "transgender".

A person born a male that got surgery and medications and whatever else to become a woman is a woman. A trans woman, at best, is someone pre-op that still has the physical traits of a male. If anyone is in that transformative stage, then they shouldn't be in the army.

Same with female to male transgender. Get what you need done first, then try again as your actual new gender. Not a fucking transgender, because that's meaningless and only shows you can't make up your mind. No one should have to deal with your flip flopping bullshit.

If you became transgender just to make a point or to gain popularity, then you're a fucking idiot that should be exiled from society.

    How?

If you don't fit in to a designated role in society then no one should be put in to the position of trusting their life to someone that can't make up their own mind about who they are. There's tons of other career paths out there that don't require you to be in the middle of a literal war zone.

I don't know where to start with this.

-Transgender people on the whole aren't people that "haven't made up their mind" Some of them are, but mostly its people who have made up their mind and have come to a conclusion that pisses off a lot of bigots.

-And if a society isn't changing its understandings to include a naturally occurring, scientifically observable biological phenomena, then that's on said societies head.

I'm surprised you didn't ask for the names of the 15,000 estimated to be currently serving. I'm sure you'd read all the thousands of names, if it existed. But why name and shame these people? Well for what it's worth, the NYT has someone on record:

Lt. Commander Blake Dremann, a Navy supply corps officer who is transgender, said he found out his job was in danger when he turned on CNN on Wednesday morning. Commander Dremann came out as transgender to his commanders in 2015, and said they had been supportive of him.

He refused to criticize Mr. Trump — “we don’t criticize our commander in chief,” he said — but said the policy shift “is singling out a specific population in the military, who had been assured we were doing everything appropriate to continue our honorable service.”

He added: “And I will continue to do so, until the military tells me to hang up my boots.”

Great, but he's now going to be one of the first ones gone.

Why the **** do you care. Stop being a transphobic yokel. Then again you'll just mark anyone who disagrees with you and then complain your freedom of speech is being squelched.

I dunno mate, everyone keeps telling me there's already open transgender people in the military, that the seniors don't care, that it's all normal.

And yet don't dare tell someone online the names of these people.

Maybe, just maybe, it's not as open as they want us to believe.

Why does it matter to you? do transgendered people upset you? Do you get "anxious"? Do you get mad? Are you just secretly at odds with your own gender identity you lash out at others?

Please tell us why this bothers you so much.

Why would anybody want to be transgender in the military. You're just be bullied to oblivion. You might as well go jump of a 3 story building if an openly trans person is going to join the military

First of all, that doesn't have any bearing on whether or not they should.
Second, it's not true. See Logan Island and Jacob Eleazer.
