- Honestly I don't think I encountered sexism like that until today
I went shopping today at a local grocery store. Didn't need too much, ended up with two bags and a bag of apples. Simple enough right? Well, after I paid for my groceries, this guy just started pushing them away from me without even asking me. I could have easily taken them to my car and yet he felt the need to fill up his little cart thing and push them out of there for me. I practically had to chase him down just to tell him where I was parked.
Did he think I was too weak to take my own groceries? I mean, dude, I was able to get all that stuff to the checkout counter. I think I could manage to get them to my car too. :/ I just ended up feeling powerless over the situation. I don't think I'll go back there. |

Was this at Publix? I ask because I know baggers there are told to help customers take their groceries out there. I always have to tell them I got it, kind of annoying.

Real talk. He was probably just trying to be polite (I guess he worked at the store?). Or he was some random guy? That's different because it's inappropriate to just take off with someone's shopping. But in either instance you projected your own preconceptions about sexism needlessly onto the scenario, which is quite telling.

Guys don't need to do every random things for women or assume we can't do them. Maybe he was trying to be polite. He could have said "can I get those for you?" Or something. She didn't like him taking off without her acting like he was her hero lol.

He will be getting minimum wage and his soul is probably destroyed from endless menial labour, I doubt he even thinks about it. You're always coming across all cold but I think you just need someone to keep you right. I think you get it.

He was probably a simple guy. You have to be more forgiving.

LittleRoyal posted...ThePredominate posted...OpheliaAdenade posted...ThePredominate posted... I don't know about this incident. But it made her uncomfortable. No, I don't think people are out to get me, but I live in this planet as a female so inevitably yes I've seen this stuff many times, with men thinking we need/get everything handed to us, thinking we need them to take over or manage us, it's very common so if this made her feel that wayC even if he was trying to be nice, he wasn't nice, and she gets to be upset about t because fact of the matter is she gets mistreated and people act like she can't handle herself way more than she or I probably even realize and definitely more than you'd imagine. I'm not saying people can't be nice and open a door for me, but when I'm simply carrying something or walking down the street I don't need men following me carrying my goods or trying to give me a ride or being annoying and taking matters into their own hands without my permission but men seem to like doing lots of stuff without women's permission

I get what little royal is saying though. there is a difference between being helpful and polite and being demeaning to someone. :v If you automatically assume women are less capable right from the start, that's sexist.

Who is saying that though? I'm sure 90% of women would be okay with someone helping them with bags. I think men would have more of a problem with it tbh. |
