Placement exams and remedial classes are outdated anyhow
Imagine finishing high school properly... then having to go over pretty much everything you already know because the older people in your class aren't quite there for it. If you DON'T already know this stuff, you probably shouldn't be in college. Remedial classes also are just ways to generate revenue for the college without actually progressing a student's education - it's a waste of time and money for both the institution and the student

This is why placement exams and remedial classes exist - so that you don't have to waste your time and money there if you can prove that you know the material.

What if what High School A thinks you should know for a topic and College B thinks you should know for a topic are different? The college certainly can't poll every high school about what they're teaching. Maybe they should give you an exam. I'd rather take a quick test than sign up for and pay for a class I might not actually be capable of passing.
I'll think of a sig later.

Oh look a part of the article that supports my claims
Currently, students who enter Cal State without demonstrating college readiness in math and/or English are required to take up to three traditional remedial classes before they are allowed to enroll in courses that count toward their degrees. (If students do not pass these remedial courses during the first year, they are removed from university rolls.)

Oh look a part of the article that supports my claims Your claim is completely different from what they're talking about. Students don't know the material and they lose their motivation to finish with being setback with classes and still aren't helpful in preparing them for the subjects they struggle with. The only claim you share with the article is hat it wastes students' money and time.

At Cal State, about 40% of freshmen each year are considered not ready for college-level work and required to take remedial classes that do not count toward their degrees. 40% is ridiculous. These people should not be admitted to college. Instead they are just pushing them through regardless.

It's because the left doesn't actually want people to learn math, English, and critical thinking. They just want to push them through indoctrination camps so that they have more SJW slacktivists roaming around.

SPOILERS: People who couldn't pass a remedial class are not going to make it through the required classes. This isn't about pushing dumb people through college CE just has an amazing ability to miss the point of every single article that's posted here even when it's a Proudclad s***post™ and you know you aren't getting the whole story from the topic title. |

we spend $16,000 per student per year on average in Chicago Public Schools and most of the kids graduate barely even knowing how to read or write CPS has issues on its own outside of the educational realm The reality is CPS won't get better until outside economic, sociological factors get better Also, CPS is one of the biggest victims of conservative policies designed to punish school systems that perform worse. Already overcrowded and underfunded, nobody can actually help CPS unless they build more schools, train more teachers, and that won't be possible under the violence stops and the city unites again Source: I had to do an entire project documenting many of the source problems regarding chicago public school's issues and difficulty educating kids, particularly focusing on institutionalized gang violence and general apathy from higher classes in chicago
