Sarah Palin is OUTRAGED over Iceland's abortion policy when it was revealed that the country has a near 100% ABORTION rate for babies with Down Syndrome!!

The former Alaska Governor turned house mom has a son, Trig who was born with the condition in 2008 and compared the policy used in Hitler's Germany and his racist quest to build a "perfect" Aryan race!!

She said "To try to snuff out a life, in the name of building a perfect race, hearkens back to Nazi Germany"

But Helga Sol Olafsdottir of Landspitali University argues that most people see the terminations as a way of avoiding suffering for both child and family and said Iceland is the most secular country that doesn't see abortion as murder. She said "We see it as a thing we ended to prevent suffering. We ended a possible life that may have had a huge complication, preventing suffering for the child and for the family. And think that is more right than seeing it as a murder, that's s black and white. Life isn't black and white. Life is gry"

Palin has been a long opponent against abortion, even in the case of RAPE and INCEST!!

She says abortion of fetuses of Down Syndrome became strong after her birth to Trig, now 9.

She's pushed for a bill to ban abortion in caes where the fetus is diagnosed with down syndrome and said "I don't think because the child has one extra chromosome, they should be able to snuff the life out"

Pre-natal tesets have been around since the early 2000s to find genetic abnormalities and conditions such as down syndrome and in Iceland, all couples receive a positive test for a fetus with the condition have terminated the pregnancy

The United States estimated that 67% have terminated pregnancies for down syndrome and almost all European territories have high rates as well such as France at 77% and the UK at 90%

Iceland allows abortion after 16 weeks if the fetus has a deformity and had just 1-2 babies born with it every year while the US has 6000 born annually.

Helga says that they counsel woman on the decision to terminate and that it is completely their choice to choose how they want to live their life and what they want best to do with their decision to abort or not

Whose side are you on? let's see what people will vote

I'm not sure if Eugenics is always wrong.

I can think of some extreme hypothetical cases where Eugenics could be necessary for Human Survival.

I was wondering how sarah Palin felt about it. Now I know she felt outraged and that really cleared things up for me.

Thanks for sharing, Sarah.

She's only outraged because her own son has ds.

If it had been anything else, she wouldn't give a rat's ass.

Im pro-choice and as long as the government stays out of it and doesnt try to force abortions on anyone for any reason, I cant really see a problem with it.

Don't really see why you'd say this. Obviously her son having Down's makes this more personal for her, but she's against abortion across the board and has pushed legislation banning it, so it's hard to say she doesn't care.

I have absolutely no opinion on the matter right now, but I feel obligated to mention that Sarah Palin is a certifiable idiot.
Back_Stabbath 16 hours ago#15
Do they force people with a disabled child (or foetus, whatever) to abort? If not then what is the problem? They're only choosing to not have to deal with the hassle of raising a difficult child and reducing their quality of life. Not selfish imo. Their body, the fetus is just a parasite* at that point.

footnote: i don't think the fetus is a parasite because it has downs syndrome. i have the same attitude towards "normal" unwanted fetuses too.

I'm okay with this.

Both the part where couples over there are willing to stop and actually think about what the pregnancy will entail (lord knows we could use more people in the US using their brain), and the part where some scummy pro-lifer gets to rage in futility.

O they aren't because they love women and kids. It is us nasty people who don't play God and give children a chance at life that f***ing suck. We should all be shamed and charged with child abuse.

Because they're prone to being self-righteous hypocrites concerned only with their own feelings.

For all their talk about the value of life, you'll nary find a single one that regards the woman as anything more then expendable breeding stock. And that's *before* you factor in the extremists who refuse to make exceptions for abortions even in the event of rape or incest. (Surprise surprise, Palin is exactly one of those sanctimonious a******s.)

I am not "outraged", however I don't think I agree with that stance. While not the great thing one can have, having Down Syndrome does not mean you can not live a full life.

Really nothing wrong with this if it is choice- based and not enforced by the government.

Literally no one wants to have a downs syndrome kid and they are being dishonest if they say otherwise. No doubt they still love their kid, but they definitely don't love that they have downs and would prefer otherwise.

People that dont agree with this can still have their downs babies so I dont see the problem

But it does mean you're a perpetual burden to society (and I don't mean this is an insulting way, rather in terms of resource consumption). While you can make a great argument that we should do our best to take care of people who currently have Down Syndrome, you can't make any sort of argument that society is better off with more people who have this condition.

This is an interesting moral issue, and I'm inclined to agree with Iceland's policy.

I understand the pro-life ideology, to a point, but Palin and Co. have to realize that most people don't have the time or funds to be able to care for a special needs child like her family does.

And I know I'm a pig here, she's still hot. 08 Palin got me into the businesslike/formal types of chicks and dress.

Being someone with a genetic condition, I still remain in support of this. Despite mine being very mild, it isn't something many can cope with and few have the luxuries I had/have to cope with it. For something actually serious, it can just be plain awful and while I do greatly commend those that struggle through it, for many it is simply better to not put both themselves and the child through it.

Nah we're better off forcing them to live in orphanages get the bare minimum of food and love while they wait for the day that someone may or may not take them in, otherwise they become adults with no family or means of financial support and likely no education. That way we can both sleep at night in our comfy beds with a full stomach knowing we did a good thing for humanity by forcing the mom to carry the unwanted all the way through.

As long as it remains a personal choice, not government mandated, and done early term, sure. But no one should be forced to carry and give birth to a mentally defective baby or one with extreme handicaps, especially if the condition would significantly impact their quality of whatever short life they have.

If you found out your unborn baby had downs, you wouldn't want it. And even if you kept it, you definitely would prefer for it not to have it.

Who signal boosts Palin? She's probably patient zero for what passes as modern conservative thought. No one benefits from talking about her.

In fact, I propose a radical solution. It didn't work for Trump, but only because our resolve is weak. Sarah Palin is much less divisive, not because she's any less crazy or any more incompetent, but because some of us have actual problems with women, but that's another topic.

Let's use the secret to imagine a world wherein Sarah Palin doesn't exist. And then actualize that world by refusing to talk about or acknowledge her. If we try hard enough she might literally pop out of existence. Like the ignore function on these message boards. Whose with me?

Once alive, not many people want to die.

Perhaps asking them if they would want to bring someone into the world like them would be a better question. I know I certainly would loathe to give birth to anyone with my genetic f*** ups, it was awful for me and having to go through it again through my child and have them do it too would be heartbreaking.
