Maybe you should look at some of those anti-Islam sites, TC. The likes of David Horowitz and Pamella Geller make the following claims:

google is in bed with the government, has been for over a decade now. we're talking warrant-free demands for information being instantly fulfilled. it is only recently that they have graduated to outright manipulating public opinion. whether its on behalf of certain parties in congress or certain intelligence agencies, or both is an open question.

Google has (very sadly) decided to promote disinformation rather than provide an open search service. They caved to China, big time, when it came to censorship and doing everything they demanded. So once they set up a culture like that, it's only a matter of time before they cave over here too.
