Why can you only like one thing?

The bi partisan system, demo vs rep

video games, this console or that

movies, marvel or dc

computers, mac or pc

vegetarian or meatarian

gangs, bloods vs cripes

Just... why? I have never been able to understand the inability to be a well rounded person with several interests instead of pigeon holed into subcategories and types, even when it comes to attraction.
cripes

Tribalism

(and it's certainly not limited to American culture)
BKSheikah owned me so thoroughly in the 2017 guru contest, I'd swear he used the Lens of Truth to pick his bracket. (thengamer.com/guru)

Tc, I used to be a one company console gamer til I bought a PS2 and Xbox 360. Now I own all the systems from the 3 major companies.
This is my year of Pokemon!
Pokemon games I'm playing: Fire Red and Pearl.

And why were you one company?
Black/white mentality that comes from a poor sense of right and wrong.
You haven't set a signature for the message boards yet. Might wanna get on that, yeah?

Why is this just being limited to America?

North or South in the Civil War.

East Coast or West Coast in old school rap.

Android or iPhone.

It's really not, just more prominent in the whole "us vs the germans" or "us vs the commies" or "us vs the russians" or "us vs the arabs"

I guess it's closely linked with the history of such a young country, "colonists vs british empire and their king" which first started the whole "they stand for everything we don't" thing.

Failure on the government's part to regulate sites like Facebook that push people into their own bubbles combined with Reagan's elimination of the Fairness Doctrine.

Winners and losers, everyone wants to feel like they are on the winning team.

This isn't just America.
"I'll send in detectives! I'll send in police! I'll send in EVERYTHING IN MY POWER!!!"
Competition is good. It drives us forward. We probably would have never gone to the Moon if it weren't for our giant pissing contest with the Soviets.
saspa 4 days ago#21
That's not what happens now though, competition hasn't been useful in bolstering knowledge and education.

It's more akin to "instead of bettering ourselves, try to tear the other team down"

crepes vs blini vs palacinka
Really only see this on the internet, not so much out in the real world.

Guessing that people are either insecure or delusional so they try and act like what they like is the best and all other stuff is garbage to maybe boost themselves. Really have no idea and I usually just laugh at people.

People are easier to control when you tell them they have an enemy.
This is LinksLiege's signature. It is fantastic.
