- Why is American culture so fixated on 'either or' and ''us vs them'' mentality?
Why can you only like one thing?
The bi partisan system, demo vs rep video games, this console or that movies, marvel or dc computers, mac or pc vegetarian or meatarian gangs, bloods vs cripes Just... why? I have never been able to understand the inability to be a well rounded person with several interests instead of pigeon holed into subcategories and types, even when it comes to attraction. |

Tribalism
(and it's certainly not limited to American culture)
BKSheikah owned me so thoroughly in the 2017 guru contest, I'd swear he used the Lens of Truth to pick his bracket. (thengamer.com/guru)

Black/white mentality that comes from a poor sense of right and wrong.

Cute? B****, I'm adorable. |
It's really not, just more prominent in the whole "us vs the germans" or "us vs the commies" or "us vs the russians" or "us vs the arabs"
I guess it's closely linked with the history of such a young country, "colonists vs british empire and their king" which first started the whole "they stand for everything we don't" thing. |
Failure on the government's part to regulate sites like Facebook that push people into their own bubbles combined with Reagan's elimination of the Fairness Doctrine.
I make a topic in Final Fantasy 12 to ask if Tifa! They said no Tifa. Hardness gone!-gandob

This isn't just America.
"I'll send in detectives! I'll send in police! I'll send in EVERYTHING IN MY POWER!!!"

Competition is good. It drives us forward. We probably would have never gone to the Moon if it weren't for our giant pissing contest with the Soviets.
|
That's not what happens now though, competition hasn't been useful in bolstering knowledge and education.
|
It's more akin to "instead of bettering ourselves, try to tear the other team down"

This is a human condition and in no way limited to America in any conceivable way.

Really only see this on the internet, not so much out in the real world.
Guessing that people are either insecure or delusional so they try and act like what they like is the best and all other stuff is garbage to maybe boost themselves. Really have no idea and I usually just laugh at people. |

People are easier to control when you tell them they have an enemy.

They were born in war. They were literally "Us Vs Them" since the very second they formed.
