Most murders of American women involve domestic violence, according to a report released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday.

The CDC analyzed data from 18 states, finding 10,018 female homicides between 2003 and 2014. Over half ― 55 percent ― of cases where circumstances were known involved domestic violence. In 93 percent of those cases, victims were killed by current or former intimate partners: boyfriends, husbands, and lovers. The other 7 percent of victims were female friends, family members, first responders and bystanders who were killed during a domestic incident.

While the facts seem shocking at face value, they’re not surprising or new.

It is already well-established that women in the U.S. are far more likely to be killed by an intimate partner than by any other group of people. As HuffPost previously reported: It’s not strangers, friends or acquaintances who pose the biggest threat to women’s lives. It’s the men they date and marry.

Around three women a day are murdered by an intimate partner, and in many cases, children and others are also killed. The majority of mass shootings ― defined as four or more people fatally shot, not including the perpetrator ― involve domestic violence.

The CDC found that firearms were used in 54 percent of all female homicides. Limiting access to guns for those subject to a domestic violence protective order could serve as a preventative measure to help reduce deaths, it said.

Damn. Can we really blame women for being overly cautious with men in the dating scene?

that would depend on the rate of homicide per capita. there's no reason to be cautious of this when dating if the odds of winding up with someone who would do this are so low that your caution had a minimal effect on the outcome. or if the probability of a man killing his partner is dependent on things unrelated to how cautious she is of his visible behavior patterns.

imo most of the concern women have about this is tied to the illusion of control. it's not that it's likely you'll find a guy who'll kill you--it's that if you do, there is very little you can do to stop them

the reasoning is similar to why we want to spend billions against terrorism when it kills fewer americans than lightning.

Look at that bolded part. They're basically saying that they hand picked cases that supported their argument instead of just looking at all the cases of female homicides. In other words, this is fake news

that is not what 'hand picked cases supporting their argument' means. the study required several years to complete and it is not logical to keep adding data once you start the analysis.

stop

what does the statistic look like regarding female homicides in general and not just ones which involve an already physically abusive relative/spouse/inlaw?
It's Mexicans and Muslims doing the killings the innocence husbands and boyfriends are being claimed by the liberal CDC.

"Violating constitutional rights of citizens with only an evidentiary standard of a preponderance of evidence makes the most sense when we don't mention that 85% of gun deaths are men, 80% of gun suicides are men, and 77% of all homicides are against men"

this is also a good point--the article does not clarify what % of cases had 'circumstances known'

Why was the CDC analyzing homicides? Shouldn't they leave that to the FBI or something and analyze more, I don't know, diseases?

Why is this surprising? Most murder victims are killed by people who know them well

no no no.

it's saying "in cases where the circumstances were known to have involved domestic violence, 93% of them were killed by their spouse/relative/ex/other"

Basically, take all the female homicides between the years of (blah) to (blah) then look at the homicides in which domestic violence was involved, the killer is 93% likely to be a guy in their relationship.

Says nothing about the likelihood of the perpetrator when the woman is otherwise not already being physically abused.

yes i understand. the article's point was that those are 55% of cases with known scenarios, which does answer to your thoughts there.

my point (which your post alerted me to, but was not focusing on) is 'what is the % of known circumstances?'

Let me also add that men are 3 times more likely to own a gun so one would assume they are 3 times more likely to use one. I don't think it would be appropriate to use this logic to discriminate against men owning guns though by saying men are more dangerous than women with guns.

I am not sure if my statistic utilizes illegal gun ownership. I would assume it does not. I see your point but have no knowledge of the number of female affiliated gang members who utilize guns. I also think adding those numbers in right now would skew the data as gang affiliation itself confuses the scenario.
