Every patriotic American who is qualified to serve should be able to serve. End of story.
Once again, as before with racial integration of the military and gay people in the military, certain people in our country are grasping at flimsy straws to justify discriminating against a minority they find unappealing. Transgenderism is not a psychiatric condition or a mental disorder, it is an identity people are born with and can't do anything about. We can't go on sweeping them under a rug and pretending they need psychiatric help, because they don't. What they need is acceptance, and an end to prejudice and discrimination. Looking forward to the day when all Americans, especially my fellow Christians, learn to embrace each other with love. Not disdain. |

They should be allowed to join but the department of defense shouldn't have to use tax payer dollars for trans surgeries

If transgenders are not transitioning and don't want/need SRS, then I see any reason to ban them -- they're no different from any other soldier and don't have any special needs beyond anyone else. However, once someone starts a hormone regimen and needs/wants SRS to avoid feelings of depression or dysphoria, being transgender goes from "an identity" to a full-blown medical condition. The military cannot guarantee troops will have a steady supply of hormones on deployment, so I have no problem banning these folks like the military bans several dozen other types of medical conditions. And going by Trump's comments about medical costs, he's obviously only talking about people who are/want to transition sexes.

Transgenders can operate drone weaponry just fine... why would we bar them from all forms of military instead of throwing them in support roles if the physical requirements is such an issue?
Clearly this is just a prejudiced choice done to appease red hats. It's disgusting really. Some 5,000 troops are transgender in the military, that's quite few bodies willing to lay down their lives for the freedoms you redhats no longer wish to show any merit toward.

I have no misconception about whether or not Trump has a noble cause for barring transgender people from serving.
But, when you look at suicide rates among veterans and transgenders, maybe it doesn't seem like such a great idea at the moment

if transgenderism isn't a mental condition, then the medication and surgery shouldn't be covered by insurance and should be paid out of pocket in full. Feel free to serve, but don't expect the government to pay for the treatments.
if transgenderism is a mental condition, it should be covered BUT if it is labeled a condition you would be disqualified from joining the military given how they disqualify many people for much less. which is it?
