I want to make sure those who view despicable terrorist content online, including jihadi websites, far-right propaganda and bomb-making instructions, face the full force of the law,” said Rudd. “There is currently a gap in the law around material [that] is viewed or streamed from the internet without being permanently downloaded.

According to the Home Office the updated offence will ensure that only those found to repeatedly view online terrorist material will be guilty of the offence, to safeguard those who click on a link by mistake or who could argue that they did so out of curiosity rather than with criminal intent. A defence of “reasonable excuse” would still be available to academics, journalists or others who may have a legitimate reason to view such material.

At an earlier fringe meeting, Rudd said she would continue to press internet companies to do more to prevent terrorist material being made available on their platforms in the first place. A second meeting of a global internet forum she chaired in California in the summer is due to take place next January.

If they can already prove intent I don't think this is a bad thing. It would be easier to actually prosecute terrorists who are planning an attack.

But I dunno if this will be as easy as they think it will be.
Kind Regards,
Darmik

🤔
I don't see a problem. Do you think the FBI would happily look at the internet history of someone who's going on Jihadis4u and downloading the banned cookbook and think "hmm, fair play, must be reading up on terrorism".

I have just googled Jihadis4u and the actual name of the banned cookbook. I don't imagine I'll be getting arrested any time soon.

I'm surprised that the Quran is apparently terrorist material according to the OP. One could be crass and ask if the incident Las Vegas had anything to do with the Quran, but it is not the time nor place to do so.

Wow at the idea that anyone downloading the good ole jollyrodgers cookbook could now get 15 years. Pretty much everyone had a copy of that downloaded when I was at school in late 90s for shits and giggles.
We have no empathy, and we expect none from you. When the terror comes, we will make no excuses.

Same here. It was a bit of a rite of passage when you first got Kazaa or Limewire.

Straight up V for Vendetta bullshit.
This is pretty extreme and ruthless coming from the UK.

You have to wonder just how much of this is the influence of former WWE Tag Team and Cruiserweight Champion The Brian Kendrick. As The Man With A Plan has spent the past several months prodding, insulting and humiliating The British Cultural Icon Gentleman Jack Gallagher.

CP7827v

Gallagher has been a real man his entire life, respectful, courteous, fierce and brave. Respected by anyone he has ever met and undefeated in MMA. But The Brian Kendrick is beyond devious and has treated the rising star of Gallagher like a joke.

Kendrick has assaulted Gallagher repeatedly from behind, then when Gallagher directly challenged Kendrick to a face to face duel as a response, Kendrick sent a clown in his place to further insult Gallagher.

IDwAV4J

This parade of transgressions continued on and on until eventually Gallagher realized that being so "Gentlemanly" all the time just allowed his enemies to take advantage and harm him over and over and over and over again. Discovering he had no choice but to do the unthinkable, get his hands dirty and actually team with Kendrick

Now allied the tenacity and ability of Gallagher mixed with the experience and sly wits of Kendrick are a potentially unstoppable duo.

You gotta believe Teresa May saw this transpire over the past several months as she watched 205Live and realized that as controversial as it sounds she had to do the same thing.

Get her nations hand dirty and make tough often harsh or cruel decisions to avoid devious opponents who just enjoy causing harm to those they can outmaneuver. Remaining noble and a stiff upperlip in the face of adversity just leads to that lip getting bloodied when a rascal throws a brick at it.

It may not be noble or gallant, but if it yeilds the same results that Gallagher and Kendrick are bringing to the table then you can see why May felt she needed to do the same.

Not exactly. You'd get arrested for repeatedly looking at child porn too. Read it properly:

A new maximum penalty of 15 years’ imprisonment will also apply to terrorists who publish information about members of the armed forces, police and intelligence services for the purposes of preparing acts of terrorism.

We're not talking about people watching an ISIS beheading video on liveleak. It's more about finding ways to prosecute people who are clearly planning something.

That said amber rudd is a hack and this end-to-end encryption nonsense they keep talking about is worrying.

The UK really is becoming more like V for Vendetta every year.

I bet this will be used to go after journalists who those in power don't like.
I may not go down in history, but I will go down on your sister.
