- Connecticut University professor forced students to remove shoes + praise Allah.
A controversial Muslim professor at the University of Connecticut retired this past year after students complained that he required them to say an Arabic phrase and remove their shoes before entering his office.
Retired biology professor, Felix Coe, taped two signs outside his office requiring students to say “Bismillah,” an Arabic phrase meaning “in the name of Allah” before entering his office, CampusReform.org reported. Visitors were also required to remove their shoes. “I’m a Muslim. You don’t come in my office with dirty shoes. That’s a curse,” Coe told a student, after telling her to “get the hell out” and “I don’t want to see you” for wearing shoes in his office in an undated audio clip Retired Muslim biology professor at UConn, Felix Coe, required students to remove their shoes and say an Arabic phrase before entering his office. When asked by two individuals why he required students to say “Bismallah” and take their shoes off at a public university, he said, “Because I’m a Muslim.” He also complained he didn’t have a separate place for prayer in a video taken last December. UConn spokesperson, Stephanie Reitz, told Fox News that Coe retired since the video was taken and the signs were quickly taken down from the satellite campus location in Hartford, Conn. “Regarding this instance, the sign that had directed guests to precede their conversations with a specific Arabic phrase was immediately removed at the university’s direction,” Reitz said in a statement. “UConn promptly resolved the issue in a manner that respects the rights of all involved, and affirms the university's values of civility and inclusivity.” Reitz added that other rooms are provided, aside from the professor’s office space, at all their locations for faculty to meet with students and other guests. OH WAIT! That never happened.
^ Hey now that's completely unfair.

the shoe thing is fair imo This, I don't have a problem with requesting you remove your shoes and politely reminding people if they forget. That religious phrase has no place in a public school, though.
Many Bothans died to bring you this post.

The phrase is too far, but the shoes thing, eh. Meh, I've personally been using it for years with no clue to its meaning when singing along with Bohemian Rhapsody. No sense in getting worked up about using it as a greeting.

I'm fine with taking my shoes off to enter someone's home, but expecting people to do that to enter your office at a public university is a bit much.

Eh, kids are babies. You enter another person’s space, you respect their customs. Like, if your girlfriend’s family or your parents say grace at the table, you go right ahead and play along as a show of respect. Get the fuck out of here with that safe space garbo

Public schools get government funding. Kinda at odds with the whole freedom of religion if I gotta conform to Muslim practices just to have this professor do his job at the school.

That's dumb. I wouldn't mind taking off my shoes, but it would annoy me and I would lose respect for the professor. I would say a fucking prayer though, be it from Islam, Christianity or whatever.
CT, I like you as a state, but chill the fuck out with stories that make you look crazy >_>. At least he had to retire. As for that saying grace analogy, I'd hold hands and bow my head but I wouldn't go any further. My participation is limited to showing the most basic level of respect only.
Place-holder sig because new phone and old sigs not saved :/
