- Female police captain in Indiana suspended after white male privilege remark
https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/12/06/female-ind-police-captain-suspended-after-white-male-privilege-remark
An Indiana police force placed a female captain on paid administrative leave after she told a fellow officer that he benefited from “white male privilege.” A vote on Capt. Carri Weber’s future with the Plainfield Police Department is scheduled for a commissioner’s meeting on Thursday, according to WRTV. “I was racially and sexistly slurred by Captain Carri Weber while I was asking a question of the instructor in training,” the officer wrote in the complaint. “I am now firmly aware of the discriminatory belief she just verbally communicated. … There is no place in the Plainfield Police administration or supervision for someone who holds and espouses her discriminatory views.” The rest of the article and the video of the incident is in the link. |

Is there some context as to why she said that? Nothing about that statement is discriminatory on its own. Sure it is. She's saying he got where he is not through any merits but by his race and gender. She's dismissing his individual experience based on race and gender.

Acknowledging white privilege isn’t racism to anyone with a double digit IQ The Admrils view on racism is pretty much "it doesn't exist unless it's against a white" based on 99% of what he posts.

When we get actual footage of an unjust shooting, I'm the first to condemn it, but I don't automatically take the civilian's side because he has a racially charged argument.

Acknowledging white privilege isn’t racism to anyone with a double digit IQ White privilege does not exist on the individual level. Directing white privilege comments at any particular person shows you have no clue what the term means and is racist. It's actually the kind of thing I'd expect from people with double-digit IQs.

Acknowledging white privilege isn’t racism to anyone with a double digit IQ People with triple-digit IQs however likely recognize that a blanket statement about an entire race certainly counts as racism, such as telling someone that they have a privileged life because of their skin color.

She was belittling the coworker because he literally said "no one I personally know has these problems, so I don't see where the statistic comes from."
She definitely shouldn't have chalked it up to his whiteness though. She should have just said "what kind of idiot thinks that because something isn't happening to him that it must not be happening anywhere?'That_Happened posted...The Admiral posted...

I agree. But instead of doing that, she made an insult based on his race. The guy has these beliefs because he's ignorant, not because he's white. It's 100% fair that she is penalized for using one in place of the other.- The AdmiralCrimsonRage posted...Lorenzo_2003 posted...

Then, like the woman, you don't know what the term means. You probably should avoid using it in situations like this, else you also end up reprimanded.- The AdmiralI mean, she's right. There are all kinds of privileges to varying degrees. I have some social benefits just from being male and tall. My peers (including blacks) have privilege over me for being American citizens. Whites have a racial privilege, but wealthy blacks have an economic privilege over poor whites. All of these overlap.
This can be wielded entirely inappropriately. It does a white family in poverty little good to needlessly tell them at least they have white privilege.
However, this cop disputing police violence statistics because people he know have never had problems? Uh yeah, a significant reason for that CAN come down to social and ethnic identity if you come across bad cops. It's so condescending to say just because you've never come across something it means it's not really a problem. So the retort in this instance was right."I knew that I would get a chance to see the world and beat up its people." -Josh Barnett on martial arts
Training: http://Machinhate.blogspot.comI know what it means just fine, and it isn't an insult. Ignorant people tend to perceive it as an attack. In this case it was making the obvious explanation as to why his personal experiences do not back up the statistic in question. The Admiral posted...eston posted...
